Types of Dentures

There are several types of denture products providing patients more choices today than the past.  Dentures made today are made from an array of material choices and have varying levels of function and esthetics providing more treatment choices than ever.

The main type of dentures are Complete (or Full) dentures, Partial dentures which replace a few teeth per arch, Temporary Dentures, and Implant supported Dentures. We provide denture options that are BPA free and also hypoallergenic.

Dentures are a long standing alternative to replace several or all of the missing teeth in an arch.  Many of our patients are uncertain if this is the best option for their situation.

There are obvious benefits as well as perceived opinions on whether or not one would choose a denture for their treatment.  Lifestyle, expectations for your appearance and how your teeth function are all factors to consider.

Complete (Full) Dentures

Perhaps you are faced with the difficult decision to remove your teeth left and have a full denture made.  We understand it is not an easy decision to make.  We are here to help guide the process and present all the options and esthetic choices that are available to you today.

We can help guide you to see if this is the best way to replace your teeth or if there is an alternative solution.  Once the decision has been made you must ideally wait 3 months for complete healing to take place, otherwise the bone and gums will continue to shrink and the denture will end up feeling loose. Most patients do not want to wait this period without a product and select an immediate denture.  This type of product is custom made in advance based on your dental arch and placed the same time the teeth are removed.  Adjustments will need to be made on immediate dentures while the patient's mouth is healing.

Denture Repairs

Cracked Dentures or dentures with missing teeth can be repaired.  Please call our office to make an appointment at your earliest convenience.

Partial Dentures

If you have a few missing teeth partial dentures are a good solution.  Even if you can still chew your remaining teeth will need support or they may be at increase risk of damage since the left have to do the extra workload.  The teeth may also shift if there is nothing to hold them in their current position.

Partial dentures can be made of different types of base material.  They can be made of a firm type of plastic base similar in color to your gums.  They can also be made of a more conventional metal base or a flexible plastic base with natural looking clasps.

While they are a convenient option partial dentures function differently because dentures are removable and cosmetic dentistry solutions are typically permanent.

If you live in the south shore or Quincy area, call for your consultation and we can provide you with a list of options to consider.

Temporary Dentures (Flipper)

We can fabricate our patients a customized temporary dentures while they are having a cosmetic dental procedure done to replace a missing tooth.  Temporary dentures replace the missing space while dental implants or a dental bridge is being treatment planned. This is also a good solution for when a tooth is knocked out during a sports game or in an accident. The temporary denture can be held in place with a clasp and can be taken in and out whenever you like.
